The need to have a vibrant Association of women from Old Orlu Province led a few women to make calls and invite Orlu women to begin an Association of women married to Orlu men in Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. On a cold rainy Sunday in 1997, the following women: Lilian Agwumezie, Nnenna Uzomah, Chioma Ohiri, Stella Idika, Adaku Nwokeafor, Dorothy Emeche, Chika Nmezi, Opuruiche Mbadugha, Stella Okoro and Chinyere Uzoukwu met at the parking lot of Nativity Catholic Church in Washington DC and Ezinne Association was born.
The women unanimously agreed to bring in other women that their share their common objectives of providing support to rural women in Orlu zone, encouraging Orlu children born in the United States to learn and adopt Igbo culture, provide educational, health and social services to women both in Nigeria and United States and support each other. Ezinne Association has continued to thrive as an organization of women dedicated to promoting family values, giving back to the community, and ensuring the well-being of both members and their families.
The Association has worked tirelessly to fulfil these objectives under the able leadership of the following Chairladies of the Association: Sabina Onyekwere, Ego Ndubuizu, Nnenna Uzomah, Adaku Nwokeafor, Sussie Okoro, Rita Chioma and Nkiru Ezeani.
Ezinne Association has continued to be the premier Association in Washington DC and enjoys the support of the community through charitable donations to support our activities.
To provide humanitarian services to women and youths in Nigeria and the United States through health, social, economic and educational empowerment programs that foster development through collective activities.
